Why I Don't Fish Pro Bass Fishing Tournaments

Fishing in professional bass tournaments is a hard way to make a living. In this third video of the Lakeforkguy background series, I explain why I don’t fish bass fishing tournaments anymore. I walk you through my transition from college fishing into fishing professional bass tournaments and the struggles that make it such a challenge. I also go into how I made a living as a fishing guide on Lake Fork in Texas. For a young angler, it was some of the best times I ever had on the water, but when I got a little older, I decided to take another direction into the outdoor industry that would ultimately be the best thing for me to create a family and spend time with them. I’m extremely blessed to be able to still fish in places all over the country and travel to new places of adventure in the outdoors and still make a living. For all of you young bass fishing anglers that are looking to go pro or work in the outdoor industry, I hope this helps bring some context to where this channel is now and where you might end up in the future.

  1. Will you please share your opinion with me about Lake Conroe, that’s kind of sort of the lake I fish a lot, and I don’t have a lot of luck but I don’t have a boat, a fish out of a canoe

  2. Why I do not like fishing Tournaments in my area such as Pickwick lake? Well, takes 3-4 days of other people's fishing spots. It's jammed-packed parking space & constant boat waves because they are all over the place & you got "SOME" rude Pro's out there. I mean some rude Pro's that will jump in front because they think since they are Pro's that they can fish in front of you.

  3. you might favor the Atlanta Falcons quarterback but to some of us your better half favors an 80's movie star named Jaime Getz. great video content all around. will we ever see a wives only decathlon of hunting and fishing contest alternative format, no killing while hunting, trap door cage action and catch and release everything. most weight in hunting and fishing and longest fish awarded points. what is caught in the cage is all weight together then subtract the cage weight. probably need a free wheeling cargo weighting scale for the hunting.

  4. I know this video is 3 years old but you helped me realize some things. I'm 29 and I've spent a lot of time trying to make it in bass fishing. I feel being a pro isn't in the cards anymore. That sucks, but your video opened my eyes. I feel I need to turn my focus on trying to make it in another way by getting paid to promote baits, fishing line etc. for companies. I have a family I'm a proud fiance an dad of 3 kids that I love with all my heart. I'm just a simple country boy trying to make my dream come true one cast at a time. I'm gonna look for the other video you mentioned at the end and try to learn more about going this route. I appreciate you and love watching you fish on your channel. Hope to meet you one day. Tight lines 🤙

  5. Who knew fishin was a college degree! Buddy, i got a divorce; in '87. You would have had competition. In the early eightys, i was considering a fishing show. Being s member of Bassmasters since 76 ir was $50 to enter a tourney, but you lose your amateur status.. Damn, I'd have changed carriers!
