EPIC BOATING FAIL while Chasing Lake Fork GIANTS

I ended up finally getting in a few hours of a morning bite on Lake Fork and made my goal 25lbs in 5 hours in my best 5 fish. I caught some absolute donkeys and it felt good after I made a huge bone headed boating fail the previous day! My boat fell off the trailer on the boat ramp. Join me on this fun video! 1. I’m late to look at the videos because we’ve been busy with Hurricane clean up

But….I agree with the comment asking you to get the fish back in the water sooner

You don’t need to put it in the box to show to your wife and son that you caught it- you have video…

  2. I’ve seen this enough to know not to move the boat up the ramp unless it is fastened to the winch or the trailer. I grew up in Louisiana around a lot of water access points and seen people do this multiple times; even saw a brand new boat dumped on a ramp. If you have hull damage and insurance take the boat to your agent and tell them what happened. They should cover it.

  3. Don't get caught with that fish or any fish between 16 to 24" in the live well. Heafty fine! Shpw pic's it is way cheaper. Might want to contact fiberglass guy in Overton tx. Contact your insurance guy.

  4. Nice Fish! One suggestion on the trailer: It's hard to see on your video for certain, but I don't see a "safety chain" in addition to the winch cable. May I suggest you install one and hook up BOTH your winch and strap and the safety chain before pulling the boat out of water. There have been many occasions where the strap snaps or winch fails….and boat still slides off! Think of it like this. Pulling UP the ramp and out of water is probably the hardest pull on your trailer/boat you will make. MUCH harder than traveling smooth down the highway.
It takes a real MAN to not delete/share your failures on the video! Kuddos to you for a job well done with the recovery and minimal damage. Welcome to Texas!

  5. Most people wouldn't have the nerve to show the fail. Great job Austin. Seize an opportunity to teach someone how to recover. Dont know how long the gang will be in Texas, but come on over to Bob Sandlin area. Lake Cypress Springs and Welsh. Not far away. Have a great place if you guys need a base camp. Safe travels for you and family. Praying for the east coast.

  6. I did the same thing second trip with my first boat, a Z185 Ranger. Rookie mistake in my case. The back third was in water but it also damaged the keel when it came off. We pushed it back in using the trailer which probably wasn’t best choice and rough ramp so lots of gouges. I was on Lake Fork as well. Ended up over 3000 in damage and cost me $$ when I traded it in even though my glass shop did great job. I learned a lot from that mistake. Yep, Fork is tough. I zero a lot more often than catch, but that next bite could be a double digit.

  7. Hey, sh## happens. Doesn't matter how much experience you have accidents can happen to all of us. Don't fret it and keep on catching them… above all, have fun and give God all the glory 🙏

  8. I had a buddy cover up an area like that with 2 bottles of brush touch up paint from auto parts store and it sealed it and lasted for an entire season of tournaments until he got it to boat repair shop. They told him it saved the integrity of the hull by sealing it off from water.

  9. Dude thats not as bad as when i launched my boat one time on a launch ramp that was covered in moss .i got in the boat amd backed it of tye trailer..i noticed that i couldnt get it off the trail and was like wtf. Well what was really happening was that my truck was pushing my boat out as it was sliding into the lake down the launch ramp.this was at lake Hodges in escondido ca. Well i dukes of hazard it and jumped from my boat into the back of my truck and swung in the open drivers window .when i got in i put my foot on the brakes noticed the parking braking was on and had no idea why i was sl8ding into the lake .well when the water got to about my.butt the ramgers were yelling at me to get out of the truck .so i cl8mbed out.the window and watched my truck sink into the lake about 15ft deep..that was a lesson i learned not to put your back tires in the water when the lake has neglected to clean the launch ramp like they are suppose to do with the launch fees that we pay. I was pissed of. The city helps by giving you a free pull out of the lake with a scuba diver. He almost cracked his domb falling about 5 times the moss was so bad. I tried sueing the city for damage to my truck but they found ways to deny me .anyways if you have to put your tires in the water always bring something to cock your front tires with to keep this from happening .hope this story helped you feel a little better about you leaving your boat on the ramp high and dry .lol.and fyi i am not and was not a rookie boater at the time either.i just pa8d no attention to how much moss was on the ramp from the start .hope this story helps keep otheres from making the same mistake as me.god bless and have a nice day.stay bent
