I Lost a Giant Bass in the Tournament

This is day 2 bass fishing action from Lake Sam Rayburn in the big bass splash fall fishing shoot out tournament. I won the first hour of the tournament with a four pound largemouth bass fishing a frog around shallow grass. After going back out and missing numerous bass on topwater lures, I switched up to flipping crawfish style baits on a texas rig into hay grass lines. I hooked into a GIANT BASS, that I unfortunately lost and didn’t even get on camera because I didn’t want to take my hand off the reel during the fight. That fish would have been worth 10K, but at least I won the first hour and got to fish a great lake full of big bass. Congrats to Zell Rowland on the win and my hats off to the amateur side for beating top FLW and Bassmaster anglers. I can’t wait to go after another giant bass like that next time I hit the lake.

  1. My PB is 12.5 lbs that I caught on a livingston spook, but I hooked into a fish that I fought for several minutes (it was actually doing head shakes)…I got it about 3 feet from the boat and she stuck her head put of the water (enough for me to get a good look at it and add to the overall pain), and shook loose the 6/0 swim bait hook….conservatively I would guesstimate it around 14-15lbs by comparing it to the 12.5 that I previously caught….needless to say I never screamed so loud or cursed so much in my life…pretty sure I might have even shed a tear lol.

  2. I lost a toad smallie in Wisconsin this summer. Easy 6.5 to 7. She took me into the rocks and jumped into some rocks and broke me off right on the edge of my braid to fluro leader. I got her on camera at least but I think about her everyday. I caught a 6 two days earlier and she was ever bit a pound more. I lost her my last day up there and I didn't have a chance to try again. Haunts me to this day.

  3. Why do you use 50 lb line bro? I use power pro at 15 lb. line 4lb. mono diamator and i sleigh fish far bigger than these bass you tinker with. i dont get why bass fisherman use such crazy force to set hooks either. Wtf are you trying to accompmish?

  4. Lost a 12 – 14 Lbs bass off a live bluegill in my local lake. Flew right out of his mouth.. biggest regret of my life hooking it through the spine and not the mouth. I doubt I'll see a fish like that again.

  5. lost a 5lber on a day where I didn't think it would be good for frogging, then saw fish busting so I tied this super old frog with rusty hooks on to my spinnerbait rod and lost him half way to the shore
