Fishing with live bait every now and then is fun man. I've fished with spring lizards once and it's fun man. Fished with shad and minnows a few times for catfish and striper and wind up catching a big bass every now and then. A GREAT rig with artificial lizards is to put a bobber stop small light weight lead sinker, another bobber stop then a small drop shot hook. Like an adjustable Carolina rig. I use 10 pound braid to a 6 or 8 pound fluro leader.

You are setting the hook too soon. That's what we use when I was a teenager. We used a weed guard hook similar to what you are using. Bass on the bed are not trying to eat it, but remove it from the bed. We also used a rubber band and see the hook barb up.

Thanks Zark. Water dogs go back years. Good big fish method. Your right though, gut hooking can be problematic. It’s worth a try. They use golden shiners in Florida. Lol

It's called a mudpuppy and they eat the fishes eggs they usually have their face down and their back legs and tail up probably good for Texas rigs

I remember back when they were legal to fish at lake perris in so cal use to sell them at the marina and smash fish all day especially just fly line them .. Use to fish them at the marina biggest was a 7lber on them for me but seen a 12 caught scaled awesome to see them eat it on front of u when there's tons of vis… cool vid
