  1. Don't knock the old eppinger red and white daredevle. I caught my first largemouth on one when I was like 12 years old. A seven pounder!! Using a zebco spincast combo trolling from a jon boat. These are great lures for bass too. Haven't used one in years, but it's the one lure that would always get me bites. I'm gonna try it this summer on Lake Wylie.

  2. Had a laugh, Randy knows so much about fishing, then called them those red and white spoons. LOL How about Mepps as well, they've been around since 1938, still a good bass lure

  3. Do color matter? In 2023 those spoon are getting expensive,, they cost around $6-$10 for that size now.. they sell all kind of colors, silver, golden, red, blue, some even have fish painting on it…. and when you use those spoon, they can get stuck in the weed and rocks at the bottom. Do color matter?

  4. Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good….however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

  5. Anybody that lives in CA and fishes the California aqueduct. The flutter spoon works great! And don’t be scared of the size! Good luck out there! And yes. Jig it up & let it flutter down. Repeat. And if you fish like pumps with fast flowing water. It’s a killer!!!

  6. awesome video and awesome throw back to the greats. I used to go to Springfield every summer cause my grandparents lived there. learned to fish from my grandfather. they had house on a cove of lake Springfield down by the damn. cheers bub

  7. Got a lake I've been fishing with a lot of deep timber. Like 30 to 40 feet deep with tree tops sticking out the top. It's a an old rock quarry. Would you guys be using a flutter spoon there?

  8. I fish striped bass with flutter spoon all the time. I own a summer saltwater charter, and we get a lot of customers for stripers. Happy to say I’ve been fishing them correctly, and showing my clients how to use them for years now.

We use the giant ones for stripers. I like 9” copper spoons for our dark, Canadian salt water. Gold works good if yheres a lot of particulate in the water, and silver seems to work well after dark.

  9. We fished flutter spoons up here in Nova Scotia Canada in the late 60s, threw the 70s for Smallmouth, LOL
it was one of the only lures we could afford 19 Cents back then.

  10. So no swivel? I hate when spoons twist up my line, but if you let them hang and spin in the water to unravel and caught fish, maybe I’ll give it a try.

  11. Flutter spoons suck. Concepts are off by a long shot. In this neck of the elite woods, we use irons bruh. Some call them tins but I'm just a fake. Go to NJ and find out.

  12. In your eyes this guy is a legend because he found these fish with a flasher and caught them. But today if somebody does the same technique with livestope you feel it should be banned. I've heard you talk about how these fish out deep shouldn't be disturbed, and how they used to be uncatchable. Seems like a giant contradiction.

  13. Jigs and jigging spoons have taken off in the saltwater too. I bet some of the slow pitch and fast pitch stuff for saltwater would be good for deep bass too. The lighter rods and reels for saltwater jigging should be good too for vertical presentations.
