Update Toledo Bend & Lake Fork Bass Tracking Studies from TPWD's Biologist Todd Driscoll

TPWD’s Fisheries Biologist update us on the Bass tracking studies on Toledo Bend & Lake Fork that was to begin in November of 2019 and last for two years.

I am a long-term tournament angler, won a few Angler of the Year titles including the Cowboy BFL, and a second place AOY finish in the Okie BFL and many tournaments over the years. On my channel I show lake reports from Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend, tournament footage, footage on how to practice for tournaments, product reviews, map study, how to read and interpret your electronics, equipment maintenance, all the things that I’ve gone looking for from other sources over the years.

  1. Ken, I just wanted to tell you thanks for all your content. I’m an old insurance guy too and really appreciate you and your integrity and professionalism! Thank You.

  2. Ken You Are truly a steward of the sport of Bass fishing. It;s good to know that there are people who care as deeply about the little green fish, that we all have so much fun chasing in our every spare moment. Your passion shows in your videos. Already subbed for support, and will definitely use your links to purchase tackle in the future. I too am very passionate about the handling and care of fish after the catch and beyond the release. will give all the support I can and tell all my friends. Tight lines Bo

  3. Ok just hit the subscribe button. Good info. Looking forward to see how this study goes. Have you done any study on vegetation and they way different agencies try to "control" it? It really seems like every time that they try to control it they end up ruining almost ALL the vegetation and ruining fishing. I've read a "study" here in Ark and they ruined the once very good fishing lake and are now trying to regrow vegetation that they totally wiped out.

  4. Ken , Thank You for the updated information on this. I also wanted to share some information that was told to me by a biologist , as you mentioned the salt bath for the sores. He suggested to me instead of using the live well treatments like rejuvenade , catch & release…etc. You can use UNIODIZED SALT!!!! Like you said these companies do not expose their formula so all in all we do not know what they hell is in it. For some reason they don't want us to know. The uniodized salt soothes the fish, kills parasites, helps heal any wounds. 1/4 to 1/3 cup in a full livewell is enough. I have tried it myself the last couple of years & it works Great. The better plus side is you don't have the other added chemicals & dyes that are in it. Fish are friskier than when you caught them!!

  5. I don't get to East Texas as much as I would prefer to for my practices, for upcoming tournaments. Your videos are part of my study. As an angler, I look for all kinds of info to help piece together the puzzles. The content is very interesting and I feel you touch base on a level that can relate to about 85% of the guys gearing up for an event out that way. Obviously, we all know that you shouldn't take "dock talk" to the bank, but in my eyes, every little bit counts for something. I enjoy watching all your videos, rather they be about your experience on a body of water or the biology side of things. And now that I am aware of the Lews code, I will start using it. Keep up the great work sir.

  6. Thanks Ken, great follow up . Read about the failure in the test in the news paper. I know they feel sad about the results for the first try. Thanks to the department for reacting so quickly!!! I fish in the Housing area quiet a bit and I just hate that so many 5lb plus fish were destroyed. Glad you jumped on to the event and contacted Mr. Driscoll. Great job!!!

  7. This study has been done since the late 70's early 80's, with the first being an 8lb bass by a civilian on Houston County Lake. I just wonder if the Florida Strain Bass are more susceptible to disease and cold water stress than the old original Northern Strain Bass that originally inhabited Texas? Just wondering.
Thanks again Ken for all the good work on your web site.

  8. Good information. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the results from this. Todd is a great dude. I have had a few conversations with him about Houston County Lake and he also helped us get some artificial fish habitat out there!

  9. Something that I thought about while watching your video is do you think that A-rigs are bad for a fish’s health because by nature of the lure, a lot of fish are snagged by a second or third hook. Also most fish are caught in the winter time while the water is cold. It could be very concerning if accidentally snagging bass with an A-rig is lethal to bass in the winter time.
