  1. A fishfinder that actually works, but the angler still has to display Angling Skill to catch the fish, therefore its not spotlighting. If they were shooting the fish then you would have an argument.

  2. Pro fishing is on life support. Sadly, while the evolution of most technology is helpful to improve society, this use of forward facing sonar at the tournament level is undermining the professional bass fishing circuit faster than the introduction of “men into women’s sports”.

  3. It's NOT FISHING It's CATCHING I Don't Bother to watch Fish "CATCHING" Tournaments anymore…. And to think I was so thrilled to tell people that I got an autograph from Bill Dance when I was a kid and dreamed of becoming a bass fisherman…. Think I'll just stay with fishing for bluegill and catfish to put on my dining table….

  4. I have been a fisherwoman for many years. Creeks, rivers, lakes, ponds, banks, docks…and I mean I had a rod in my hand when I was 2 years old and fish 2-3 times a week in all seasons and in all weather. Fishing is in my DNA. My uncle was a charter boat captain on Lake Erie and Lake Michigan and on our journeys fishing, he taught me many many things. One thing he taught me, radar will never be as good as your experience on the water. He said never rely on it to find fish as it will not produce the biggest, best fish. He used his instincts to find fish for his clients. And used radar only to find depth. So as I grew, his advice stayed with me. I have fished boat, kayak, and wade. I have flied, baitcasted, spin fished. Hell, I went noodling once. I have climbed rocks in sketchy situations in remote regions to find large fish. And over the years, I have learned to read water, judge weather, read each species and their behavior and find the fish. I never had sonar, refused all electronics though I could afford it for my kayaks and judged depth by how fast my sinker or spinner dropped to hit bottom. I dragged the bottom with my rod and could tell you what I was hitting. Did I spook em, sure….don't care, still caught em. That's how I trained myself. So fast forward…..I actually considered maybe joining a kayak tournament to challenge myself more with no aspirations other than to challenge my skills on paper: and I started watching videos and was SHOCKED to see the electronics on these boats and kayaks in the pros. I have no doubt these pros are great anglers. But you couldn't tell given all the gadgets they have on their boats to try and find fish. I'd be upset if this was required of me in a tournament. I actually think I would fail miserably if I relied on a screen to find fish. I think I would catch less fish. Fish can sense those sound waves in the water. How do I know this: I fished near a bass boat one day in a tournament. He scooted up behind me. No matter. I am used to it. I was raking those bass in while that angler on the boat was getting pissy staring at me catching "his" fish. I said to him, fish can hear, and sense sonar vibrations at certain depths. That's a fact. And they are driven away from it in many cases. My uncle had to shut down his sonar during fishing sessions because of it. I said are you using sonar, he said yes. I said stop and you might have more luck. And I told them you're spooking them over to me. Thanks. He sped off. I have no idea who he was…..but I don't think he won. But that day, I sure did. Best day I had bass fishing on a lake in awhile. I lost count how many bass I caught. All because those boats were spooking the heck out of those fish to safer zones like under trees and rocks and far away from sonar. And this lake was used to boats, but not these fancy bass boats with all the sonar. I feel bad for the anglers in the pros if they are forced to do this. I'd be bored out of my mind doing it. And, I'm convinced it hurts them. Something should change for their sake. They want to fish, not stare at screens. Great topic and I hope someone looks at this from a logical perspective and not with dollar signs in their eyes. Should it be banned…..absolutley….but not because of a fair chase situation but because I think they would do better without all of the sonar.

  5. There is a golf club that drives a ball without swinging the club. And they are prohibited by club tournaments and up. Does the club make hole in ones? No , but if allowed it devalues every legitimate record.

  6. We have castable 2d sonar that we can bluetooth to our phones. As FFS becomes more available shitty fisherman are gonna be pressuring fish they would never have been able to without just becoming better fisherman (or women). The issue is the long term effect and the issue is its frankly not fishing.

  7. For every pro, with a 40-50k set up, there's an "average joe" spending 3-5k on this stuff. Bassmaster allows it, because it makes them TONS of money!
Has little to do with taking a stand…this is all about the mighty dollar!!! They won't ban these from competition, as long as lure makers are building products to accompany your fancy sonar…if it starts to affect the big dogs, bottom line, then you'll see a change. Until people remember they have the power to bring back what was once great, & stop buying these gadgets by the thousands, get used to it.😤I fished tonite til 8 or so. It was awesome. I'm running the same hummingbird graphs with " side & down imaging", since 2015+/- I find structure & depth. Never ever, am I looking for fish! If you're a pro', you shouldn't need a video game to show you how to do your job!!!!

  8. Follow the money. I don't watch fishing tournaments at all because of stuff like this. I bet that garmin and the others are pumping in a lot of money to keep the status quo. Shame

  9. Seeing somebody catch a big bass is about 20% why i watched … the other 80 was to watch a pro and gather knowledge, now they all just buy the win with tech and 40 dollar lures

  10. How long before they start throwing hand cast nets… Success at all cost, isn't always the right answer…We learn the most through the struggles….Stay on it Randy- FBD!

  11. I would be more concerned about where the graphs are being mounted and from what I see in the video those graphs are mounted in the sight of vision while driving a boat in which is a distraction and in which is dangerous .There will be alot of boat accidents in the near future If there aren't any regulations or laws to control this. As far as FFS if you have the money you should be free to do as you please with your own boat .D.E.C.laws are there to protect the fish and wildlife.I do not however feel that new technology that has came about recently should be allowed to be used in tournaments .I was never all that thrilled when depth sounders and graphs were invented.I am an old school fisherman it is me against the fish.Somedays I win and I can catch a few but somedays I don't that is why it is called Fishing and not fish catching but I like the challenge .

  12. Sir, a few of your videos popped up ok my feed; and to be honest i didnt really care for your content.. seemed like you really just want to stir the pot and get viewers. I get it, that is a thing; just not for me. However, seeing more or your stuff i have started to lean a little more towards agreeing and understanding. Delivery isnt always for me, but to each their own. I remember when the Alabama Rig controversy happened and i felt like BASS genuinely looked good saying they werent having it. I think FLW did, i dont remember exactly but I personally was against it being used in tournament fishing. I dont know if A-Rigs being used by the general public outside of tournaments would decimate a lake, but i think FFS sure could. The money BASS would lose has to be way more with this one. The use during the ice fishing season, beating up on schools of Crappie (which are more "cyclical" so its a slightly different conversation but still plays to a degree) with FFS is something i worry that may ruin opportunities for my kid years from now. Its going to change the lakes regardless if its allowed to be used in competitive fishing or not at this point.

  13. I would love to see FFS banned across the country in all aspects immediately. Like you mentioned I think the only ones allowed to be in possession of such technology is game wardens.

  14. I have said it for years ever since they came out with it. You only mentioned it for a second, but I agree 100% forward facing sonar should only be aloud for conservational use. It’s supposed to be professional bass anglers. The pros might as well be using floaters if you have to watch a screen to know when you get a hit. It’s absolutely pathetic. A depth finder should only be used for water depth, locating structures, different bottoms (sand rock etc), not watching your bait; keeping your bait in the exact water column to present it to a fish. I hate it absolutely can’t stand it. It’s not fishing anymore. The pros are supposed to be pros for a reason. Bass fishing isn’t the same if you have to depend on forward facing sonar to catch fish.

  15. At one time these pros didn’t have electronics and were still catching fish. Now they just catch more fish 👍🏼 as a matter of fact, I’d say it makes them even better at fishing without electronics because they used these things to see where fish are and can tell where fish would be better after electronics than before they had it.

What it really comes down to is people are jealous they can’t afford what these pros have (myself included) and so they want to strip them of what they have to help the little guys like me feel like it’s a little more fair when we are all in different “tournaments” in the first place. And I’m a really old fashioned fella but even I would like to have the best tools to help me catch fish if I could.

  16. I have a 24 year old bass boat with a RayMarine Dragonfly 7 and Hummingbird fish finder that’s the extent of my electronics. It’s paid for and a blast to fish from.

  17. You're right Randy. Bassmaster is approving the use of these electronics. You can't see where the money from the electronic sponsorships is going yet Bassmaster is having the anglers foot the bill for $50,000 worth of electronics on the boat to be able to compete and they're not seeing an increase in payout amounts 🤔 That "is" Bullshit!

  18. Ha back in the day going walleye fishin on lake erie my dad was our sonar example we would head out of sterling state park into breast Bay my dad would count to 100 as we tooled along at 20mph then he would say turn 20 degrees right and he'd count to 100 again OK he would say line up with Fermi nuclear plant and we fish. And we'd clobber um every time it was great!!!

  19. You would think these guys would be embarrassed to brag about how much crap they need to use to find fish. Considering when they started all ya had was a flasher at best. Guess having knowledge and skill don't matter to these guys anymore it's just a big advertisement for crap 95% of us can't afford and don't need..rip "pro," anglers. Time to welcome in the radio shack age smh. Next they will be 2 man teams with them taking turns diving down in scuba gear to spear bass but you can only be in the water for 10min at a time and the guy on deck is using cameras and sonar to locate the bass and there won't be a rod or reel in sight.

  20. I am a freedive spearfishing guy, so I never do hook and line. A guy invited me to go bass fishing on a lake. He showed me the proper rig, and how to tie a Palomar knot etc. He had super fancy FFS. I was casting towards the bank like I figured the bass would be. All of a sudden, I saw a huge fish signature behind me. I would have never thought to cast into deeper water behind the boat, but there it was. The FFS even told me depth and distance. I cast the rig where the FFS said it was, and on the second or third retrieve got hooked up hard. I had been bass fishing for the first time in my life, and caught a giant 9 pound bass. Lake Casitas, California. Never would have caught that fish in a million years without FFS. Who would have dreamed it was in deep water behind me.

  21. I know these posts are about tournament fishing but it impacts us sport anglers too. Bass in the highly pressured reservoirs I fish are changing their habits noticeably and are increasingly difficult to catch, and the decline has been rapid. The guys using ffs (many boats) are catching them if they know their electronics but I won’t use it. It’s my choice but bass fishing used to be rewarding and fun. Thanks Randy for helping me to be a better bass fisherman but I’ll be making fewer trips to the lakes this year.
