The side landing technique is interesting. When fish lay on their side, it kinda puts them to sleep for a few seconds. I had a 5 pounder come of the hook while bank fishing at night. It was laying on its side in the water touching the bank. I dropped the rod since the line was no longer connected, jumped in thigh deep and faced the bank. Felt around in the dark and found it laying on its side taking a mini nap. Scooped it up and landed it. Best save of the year for me.
